Precision Concrete Demolition at Moody Gardens, Galveston TX

Moody Garden's Rainforest Pyramid is not only back in business, it's better than ever. Aggregate Technologies Inc. played a pivotal role in the $25 million redesign following extensive damage from Hurricane Ike.

Officials resolved to make the 10-story Galveston attraction even better than before – acquiring new exhibits and animals as well as constructing a 300-foot canopy walkway that allows visitors to experience the rainforest from treetop-level all the way down to the forest floor.

To make this design possible, an existing 30-foot-high concrete rock structure had to be removed – without damaging the surrounding glass pyramid or the network of narrow passageways. This was the complex task assigned to ATI.

With up to seven skilled technicians working simultaneously, the ATI crew first removed dirt from each plant bed along the structure. For demolition, crewmembers used diamond saws and Brokk robotic hammers, which provided the precision required in such a confined space.

Despite a very aggressive schedule and a cramped work environment, ATI was able to complete the job on time, while maintaining utmost safety and protecting the structure from unnecessary damage.

The successful completion of the refurbished Moody Garden's Rainforest Pyramid is once again testament to Aggregate Technologies Inc. and the company's ability to handle even the most difficult and structurally sensitive jobs with safety and efficiency.
