Ground penetrating radar scanning is a reliable, non-destructive means to locate targets within concrete structures prior to drilling, cutting or coring. When preparing to perform destructive work on a concrete section, it is extremely important to understand the obstacles that could impede the progress of work. When these elements are located within poured concrete, they must be located prior to drilling or coring to avoid costly hits. A scan can locate areas of spalled concrete and weak spots within a structure. GPR is commonly used for evaluating the condition of concrete bridge decks. From the results of the GPR scan, a more accurate set of recommendations can be made for bridge rehabilitation and repair.
