Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

Advanced GPR Technology

Ground penetrating radar scanning is a reliable, non-destructive means to locate targets within concrete structures prior to drillingcutting, or coring.

Underground Locating

When preparing to perform destructive work on a concrete section, it is extremely important to understand the obstacles that could impede the progress of work. There are also critical elements within many concrete sections that cannot be damaged. GPR locates these.

Ground Radar Scanning

ATI puts GPR technology to work for our clients, and can locate steel reinforcement bars, post-tension cables, and conduits. When these elements are located within poured concrete, they must be located prior to drilling or coring to avoid costly hits. By using radar scanning, you protect yourself from cost overruns associated with damaged concrete while keeping the project on schedule.

There are also many other applications for ATI’s GPR services. Ground penetrating radar is an extremely useful tool for supporting structural inspections and investigations. A scan can locate areas of spalled concrete and weak spots within a structure. GPR is commonly used for evaluating the condition of concrete bridge decks. From the results of the GPR scan, a more accurate set of recommendations can be made for bridge rehabilitation and repair.

Additional uses for GPR include the detection of the following:

  • Water mains
  • Underground storage tanks
  • Pipes and other drainage features
  • Tree roots
  • Voids and sinkholes
